Time & Change ~ Photography Journey

So two years ago I wrote that I would do better at working on telling my story. What I didn’t realize at that time is that it didn’t mean writing, but creating images that represent my story. I spent a year and a half of that time working on my Master of Fine Arts in Photography (MFA) and graduated in May of last year with my degree.

That journey has been challenging for so many reasons-time management, work, life balance, pushing myself in creating, public speaking, etc. The biggest thing though, was truly learning how I can create an image that tI find artistic and use it in a unique way to tell a story. A huge part of this was learning a lot more about symbolism-symbolism in art, dreams, religion, etc. The more I learned, the more I realized I could create a visual story that could be interpreted in ways the viewer could better relate to the image. I wanted to create images that allowed me to put myself in an image, yet allow the viewer to also see themselves in the vision.

This led me to create my final thesis body of work entitled Convergence Divided. You can see the entire series HERE in the Fine Art Portfolio tab. I also included my artist statement that explains this body of work. While I feel like this series is complete, I think its only one chapter of a bigger story. I am now working to figure out the next chapter of my story and create a way using fine art photography that will allow me to tell that tale. No one persons story is the same, but many people have parallels in their lives that help them to relate to others. That connection helps build community, friendships, and understanding. Here’s to the next chapter.
